Unlocking Energy Efficiency in Calgary: UREX Windows & Doors and Canada’s Greener Homes Grant
UREX Windows & Doors is excited to offer Calgary homeowners a fantastic opportunity to enhance their homes with funding from the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG).
This federal initiative, introduced in May 2021, aims to inspire energy-efficient home renovations. Qualifying for up to $5,000 in grants, it’s an ideal time to upgrade your windows and doors with UREX’s energy-efficient solutions. Let us guide you through the application process to optimize your home’s energy performance.
Who is Eligible?
Eligibility for the Canada Greener Homes Grant is specific, and UREX Windows & Doors can help you determine if you qualify. This opportunity is open to permanent residents in a variety of homes, including single or semi-detached houses, row houses, townhouses, all-season cottages, mobile homes, houseboats, and condominiums in low-rise buildings.
Additionally, Indigenous communities and groups are encouraged to apply. It’s also important to note that newly constructed homes under 6 months old are not eligible.
What Does The CGHG Cover?
The grant encompasses a range of home improvements aimed at boosting energy efficiency, but for our purposes, we’re just focussing on our specific services.
The CGHG can provide up to $5,000 towards the cost of replacing your existing windows and doors with Energy Star certified products. This includes a variety of styles, such as sliding-glass and hinged doors, complete with additional features like sidelights or transoms. Below is the eligibility criteria:
- All equipment must be bought in Canada
- Online orders are only valid from Canadian-based distributors
- Products must be listed in the eligible product list
- Retain the ENERGY STAR labels on your windows and doors until the post-retrofit evaluation is complete
Important Notes:
- Eligible replacements include completely new windows or doors along with their frames. Simply replacing glass, sash, or door without a frame is not eligible
- Each rough opening can receive a grant of up to $250, with an overall cap of $5,000

How Do You Apply?
Applying for the Canada Greener Homes Grant is straightforward. You begin by visiting the website and completing the online form. A crucial part of the process involves obtaining home evaluations from an EnerGuide representative both before and after your window upgrades, with the grant covering up to $600 of these assessment costs. This program was set to benefit Canadian homeowners for a period of seven years or until funds run out, providing ample opportunity for energy-efficient home improvements. However, it was announced in November 2023 that the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG) is set to end and will not take on new applications past March 2024.
What’s The Catch?
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is that reimbursement occurs after the renovations and evaluations are complete. Homeowners initially cover the costs and must wait for grant funding after the renovations are complete. Additionally, the grant amount depends on the post-renovation evaluation, meaning the final reimbursed sum may vary and isn’t guaranteed to be the maximum $5,000. The evaluation results determine the actual amount reimbursed for the window replacement.
